Annual 'History Projects' Exhibit draws large crowd to Sioux City Public Museum

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) - A 23-year tradition brought the history of Sioux City to life at the Sioux City Public Museum.

The annual 'History Project' exhibit at the museum featured the work of 85 fourth graders, recreating pieces of Sioux City's history.

The fourth graders, representing 17 different Sioux City schools, put everything from the Orpheum Theater to the Sioux City Stockyards on display, using all kinds of craft materials.

Those hosting the event said it was a great opportunity to not only get people to the Public Museum, but to showcase the work of proud fourth grade students for their very proud parents.

"We like everything about having the kids here. We like the families coming in. They are so proud when they come in and they see their project in the case. It's just really fantastic to see," Connie Macfarlane, Education Coordinator for the Sioux City Public Museum said.

Every participant got a blue ribbon for their project, and special awards were given to six winning students:

Student Choice Award: Lily Juhnke, Lincoln Elementary, Ho Chunk Centre

President's Award: Nevaeh James, Sunnyside Elementary, Corn Palace

Sioux City Museum & Historical Association Award: Michele Jackson, Leeds Elementary, War Eagle

Trustee's Award: Phoebe Olson, Lincoln Elementary, Augustana Lutheran Church

Director's Award: Grace Frizzell, Leeds Elementary, Sioux City Museum

Museum Staff Award: Katelyn Krayenhagen, Leeds Elementary, 1891 Corn Palace
