LE MARS, Iowa (KTIV) - As a class of graduating seniors moves their tassel from one side of the cap to the other, a new era is ushered in at a Siouxland Catholic school.
The Gehlen Catholic High School seniors graduated in Le Mars, Iowa today with about 15 more students, after Gehlen Catholic merged with Spalding Catholic High School.
The school allowed the graduating classes of 2014 and 2015 to decide whether to wear the Gehlen colors or the Spalding colors, and whether they'd like a Gehlen or a Spalding diploma.
School officials say the merger has been absolutely seamless for all involved.
"These seniors from Spalding have integrated so well with the seniors from Gehlen, it just seems natural. It's just not surprising anymore," Father Kevin Richter, President of Gehlen Catholic School said.
Spalding Catholic students previously went to school in Granville, Iowa.
