ORANGE CITY, Iowa (KTIV) - An Orange City, Iowa man was flown to a Sioux City hospital with serious injuries after his car crashed into two houses at high speed early Sunday.

The Sioux County Sheriff's Office said 21-year old Rafael Maldonado sped into Orange City on Highway 10 when he lost control of the car shortly after 2 a.m.

The car left the roadway, went airborne and struck two houses.

It came to rest embedded in one of the homes.

The crash severed a gas line and nearby homes were evacuated until the fire department got the gas leak sealed.

There were no injuries to the people in the homes.

Maldonado had to be extricated from the mangled car.

He was taken to the Orange City hospital and then flown to Mercy in Sioux City.

The Iowa State Patrol is investigating.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor.
