Children's Museum Official: Opening year to add $2 Million to the local economy

City leaders also got an update Monday night on the new children's museum.  The project will be bid out on June 30th, with construction scheduled to start in August.

Because of structural issues, the building that currently sits on the site will be demolished.

Project leaders hope to open in the middle of next year and are expecting a big crowd.

"The estimated attendance the first year that we're open is 50,000 visitors. Those 50,000 visitor, based off some of the tourism statistics out of the state of Iowa will make approximately a two-million dollar economic impact on the downtown area the first year that we're open,” pointed out Kari Kellen, Executive Director of the Children's Museum of Siouxland.

Six million dollars have been raised so far.  However, Kellen said the museum is currently in a campaign to raise an extra one-million to pay for programming and future exhibits.
