UPDATE: Authorities release new details in crash that killed 3 near Pilger, Neb.
NEAR PILGER, Neb. (KTIV/US92) - Authorities have identified one of the individuals involved in Tuesday's fatal accident near Pilger, Nebraska.
Stanton County Sheriff's officials say 27-year-old Brandon Wolf of Fremont is hospitalized in Omaha following the collision involving two semis and an SUV at the intersection of Highways 15 and 32.
The Sheriff's office says the accident happened when an eastbound SUV was struck by a northbound semi that was hauling grain. Both vehicles then crashed into a southbound semi hauling an empty tanker driven by Wolf.
The northbound semi and the SUV were engulfed in flames.
Three people were killed.
Sheriff's officials say three fatalities have been tentatively identified, but they're still awaiting confirmation of dental records before releasing those names. They say that the two occupants of the SUV were likely a couple from the Norfolk-area, while the driver of the northbound semi was likely from Iowa.
The crash closed off the intersection into the evening hours.
The Sheriff's office says workers with the Nebraska Department of Roads were working on the intersection at the time of the crash, but an actual cause of the accident is still under investigation.
