Statements stand in double homicide case in Sioux City

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) - A judge has ordered statements made by a man charged in a double homicide in Sioux City be admitted during his trial next week.

Juan Nino Estrada is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder following a shooting and stabbing at a home on West 27th Street in November.

Nino-Estrada's lawyers said some information police obtained should be surpressed because he was not properly advised of his rights.

Authorities on the stand said they did advise Nino-Estrada of his Miranda Rights.

Police say Nino-Estrada MAY have said he "pleaded the 5th," but it was mumbled.

Nino-Estrada is expected to go to trial on May 27.

However, the defense has asked for a continuance of the trial.

A judge is expected to rule on this, no later than June 2.
