NORFOLK, Neb. (KTIV/US92) - For achieving the largest reading goal in school history, one northeast Nebraska principal celebrated on the schools highest stage.

Students at Jefferson Elementary in Norfolk were challenged with reading 13 million words during the final quarter of the school year.

The students exceeded their goal by nearly one million words.

To celebrate the school held an outdoor party featuring dancing and the principal reading from the rooftop of the school.

School administration say research shows that if students aren't reading by third grade, they are less likely to be a reader in the future.
