NORFOLK, NE. (KTIV/US92) -

Folks in Norfolk gathered to celebrate Memorial Day, and to celebrate the return of a local monument.

The Norfolk VFW hosted a Memorial Day celebration in Norfolk's Central Park.

The ceremony served to both pay tribute to area veterans, and welcome back the Little Sister of Liberty statue in the park's World War II Memorial.

The 64-year old statue was recently returned to its spot in Norfolk, after having about $12,000 worth of refurbishments done in Omaha.

"It's nice to stop and really take a look at it and reflect on what it means for this community,” Chris Amundson said.

All of the money for the refurbishment was raised from local donations.
