Representing the tying run, Nate Samson was tagged out at home trying to score on Peter Barrows' single in the top of the ninth as Sioux City fell 2-1 Tuesday night against Winnipeg.

A pitchers dual the entire night, the X's struck first in the top of the first with an RBI single from Tommy Mendonca.

The Goldeyes struck back in the bottom of the fourth and took a 2-1 lead on a Luis Alen's sac-fly an inning later.

Sioux City pitcher John Straka and Winnipeg's Kyle Anderson both went 6.1.

The Explorers will go for the series win on Wednesday.
