Members of the Woodbury County Deputies Union are taking issue with plans to hire outside security for the courthouse, even as the board of supervisors moves forward with the plan. On Tuesday, supervisors voted 3-2 to approve a job description that allows the security personnel to be armed and make arrests. Supervisor Larry Clausen said they hope to hire from a pool of retired law enforcement officers. The deputies union said that work is in its contract.

However, it carries a hefty price tag. County engineer Mark Nahra outlined a $927,000 plan for a mile-long expansion of a road to re-route trucks so they are not passing by homes. Supervisors have earmarked some money to address the damaged roads, but Nahra said he's also been working with CF to develop the plan.
