Experts encourage Siouxland farmers to scout their fields for Palmer Amaranth

LE MARS, Iowa (KTIV) -

Crop specialist Joel DeJong said an aggressive weed is a concern in Siouxland.

Palmer Amaranth was spotted about 60 miles south of Sioux City in Harrison County. It's a fast growing plant, and DeJong said the window of opportunity to treat it with herbicides is crucial and must be done early-on.

DeJong is encouraging farmers to continue scouting their fields. He said maintaining an aggressive weed control system is the best way to prevent the spread of Palmer Amaranth.
