Replica of Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall unveiled in Siouxland

Remembering those who lost their lives in the Vietnam war and honoring those who served. Now, thanks to a memorial in South Sioux City, Nebraska, Siouxlanders have a place to do that. A ceremony held Wednesday officially dedicated the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall at the Siouxland Freedom Park. Hundreds came out to the park for the dedication of the new landmark. The monument is a half-scale black granite replica of the wall in Washington, D.C. that bears the names of the more than 58,000 Americans who died in Vietnam.

People escape house fire on West 4th in Sioux City

Sioux City fire crews battled a house fire on the city's west side. The fire broke out Wednesday night around 8:30 at a home on 1515 West 4th Street. Everyone inside the home made it out okay, but paramedics took one fire fighter to the hospital for heat exhaustion. Officials said the fire was mostly contained to the main level of the home. Crews remained on the scene late into the night to put out any hotspots.

Hard Rock Casino opening the beginning of August

Sioux City's Hard Rock Hotel and Casino will officially open for business on August 1. That's one month after the Argosy Casino is scheduled to close for good. The Hard Rock will have more than 800 slot machines, as well as table games and places to eat. Many of those slot machines are arriving this week. Hard Rock officials said even though all of this comes amidst a very complicated legal battle, they'll be ready to open their doors August 1.

Texas Gov. Perry in Iowa; mulling 2016 GOP run

Texas Governor Rick Perry visited Iowa on Wednesday to put his support behind U.S. Senate candidate Matt Whitaker. Whitaker is one of five Republicans vying to replace Democratic Senator Tom Harkin, who is retiring. Perry said he wants more conservatives in Congress. The state's GOP and Democratic primaries will be held next week. The winners of each will go head-to-head in November.
