SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KTIV) - Wednesday at the dedication of the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Wall in South Sioux City the wife of the most decorated serviceman in Siouxland history was in attendance.

Doris Day, the wife of the late Colonel George "Bud" Day, made her way back to the place she and her husband call home.

"Sioux City's always been precious with us," said Day. "We were raised here, and Bud would always brag about the effects of being raised in the midwest. It's always a treat to come back home."

On what would have been their 65th wedding anniversary, Day was presented a plaque commemorating the achievements of her husband.

Bud Day remains the only person to be awarded a Medal of Honor and an Air Force Cross.

That plaque will hang permanently in the interpretive center at Freedom Park upon its completion.

Construction on that interpretive center is set to begin next summer.
