Ryan Mitchell suffered the loss in Sioux City's series opener in Fargo on Thursday.

The Sioux City Explorers lost the opening game of their series in Fargo, 5-4 on Thursday night.
The X's (5-10) trailed 4-0 after three innings but then made the game close. Rene Tosoni's two-run triple with two outs scores Luke Murton and Todd Jennings to make the score 4-2.
In the eighth innings, Nate Samson's two-out single scored Michael Lang and the X's trailed 4-3. Fargo-Moorhead scored a run in the bottom of the eighth for a 5-3 lead but Sioux City would not give up.
Mark Sobolewski led off the top of the ninth with a home run to cut the lead to 5-4 but that's as close as the X's would get. X's starting pitcher Ryan Mitchell worked into the seventh inning but took the loss.
Game two of the four game series is Friday at 7:02. The Explorers return home Monday to begin a four game series with Gary-Southshore.
