Sioux City Hotel up for sheriff's sale

Sioux City officials are sounding off about the Sioux City Hotel going up for a sheriff's sale later this summer.

Officials say not only is it frustrating a developer hasn't been found, they're also struggling to attract conventions.

City officials say the poor condition of the hotel is preventing groups from choosing Sioux City as their meeting ground.

"Potential convention planners come look at our community and rave about the food that the convention center offers, rave about the facility, then look at the hotel and go elsewhere," said City Manager Bob Padmore.

Erika Newton from the Events Facilities Department says it's a loss of revenue for the city.

But she's confident that the conditions are going to change with help from the sheriff's sale.

"It's a great location, you can't get much better than that location connected to the convention center right there on fourth street so I think eventually somebody is going to step in and do something with that property," said Newton.

The Sioux City Hotel is listed in the sheriff's sale which is slated for July 15.
