Nebraska won the Gator Bowl last season.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Led by Bo Pelini, the Nebraska football team has won nine or more games in each of the last six seasons.
He's a part of elite group, joining legendary coaches Tom Osborne and Oklahoma's Barry Switzer as the only three to accomplish the feat.
But, still missing is the conference title.
The Huskers haven't won a league championship since 1999.
They have come close, playing in two Big 12 Championship games (2009, 2010) and one in the Big Ten (2012), but fell short in all three.
Expectations are high once again for the Big Red, and Osborne believes the program is ready to break through.
"We've come close on a couple of occasions, but we haven't quite gotten over the hump to win a conference championship," Osborne said. "I think we're knocking at the door and I think we should have a good team again this year."
Nebraska begins the season August 30 against Florida Atlantic.
