Sioux City to look at closing some parks earlier

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

Sioux City leaders are going to look at closing some local parks earlier.

Right now, all parks are open from 7am-11pm.  However, councilman Pete Groetken says he's received noise complaints from those who live near the Dale Street Park.

He says parents have also suggested the park be closed closer to nine, to discourage children from being out too late.

"One story shared with me was that they had actually called the communications center at one o'clock in the morning because of all the noise and the activity that they could hear in the park. They were about a block away couldn't see the park directly,” said Groetken, a former police captain.

Leaders say if they reduce the hours, it will only be at neighborhood pocket parks, not the city's major parks like Riverside, Bacon Creek, and Grandview.
