Yankton Police: armed robbery leads to high speed chase

One man is behind bars after a robbery and high speed chase in Yankton, South Dakota.

It all started with a call to the Freedom gas station at 3rd and Broadway at 10:15 Saturday night.

Authorities say 23-year-old Baylon Nkeshimana of Omaha, Nebraska robbed the gas station while armed with a weapon and fled the scene.

About half an hour later, the South Dakota Highway Patrol spotted Nkeshimana's vehicle on Highway 50.  They chased Nkeshimana, reaching speeds of over 100 miles per hour.

Nkeshimana eventually lost control and rolled his vehicle in a ditch.  Authorities say he attempted to flee the scene but was caught.

Nkeshimana is charged with 1st degree robbery, eluding, and reckless driving.
