SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
A new Sioux City elementary school now has a name picked by the students that will fill its hallways.
Construction is underway at the former Washington Elementary, which was torn down and replaced with what will now be called Morningside Elementary.
The school will house Washington students as well as Whittier.
A group of parents and teachers came up with five names for students to vote on.
"Two other favorites on that short list were Discovery Elementary and Journey Elementary, but ultimately given the geography the students thought Morningside Elementary was the best fit,” said School Board President Mike Krysl.
Morningside Elementary will open in the fall of 2015.
