Northwest, Iowa dairy farm looks at expanding its operations

SANBORN, Iowa (KTIV) - A Northwest, Iowa dairy farm is growing beyond it's current facilities.

O'Brien County Board of Supervisors approved expansion of Van Ess Dairy Farms on Tuesday.

The approval will allow the Sanborn, Iowa farm to add three additional buildings and expand of an existing building.

The growth would allow the dairy farm to bring in immature cattle to their farm.

The O'Brien county auditor says the facilities would allow the farm to house 1,400 immature cattle and an additional 200 mature cattle.

The auditor says they are currently set up for 4,300 mature cattle.

The farm would still need final permitting approval from the DNR in order to add the extra cattle.
