185th declared Blue Zones worksite

The 185th Air Refueling Wing has joined Sioux City's Blue Zones movement. A ribbon-cutting ceremony today served to officially designate the Air National Guard unit as a Blue Zones worksite.

To get the distinction, the refueling wing met several requirements. Among them was the establishment of a Wellness Advisory Committee that schedules activities that promote and encourage well-being in the workplace.

Those activities include walking and running groups in the morning and afternoon, health and nutrition training sessions, and a calendar full of well-being activities.

"Really for us, it's kind of a closure of everything we do everyday," said 2nd Lt Marty Hogan, 185th Medical Administrative Officer. "We do a lot of these programs already and to be recognized for it, and to help the community at the same time, is a really great thing."

Sioux City is one of 15 Blue Zones Project demonstration sites in Iowa. The purpose is to implement a blueprint to promote healthier behaviors that can lead to longer, happier lives.
