LAKES AREA NEWS: Milford city administrator and mayor resign

Posted:
MILFORD, Iowa (KUOO/KTIV) -

A special session Wednesday of the Milford city council to discuss future employment of the City Administrator ended with a longtime Mayor and a council member submitting their letters of resignation.

It was stated at the meeting that a call for a performance review of City Administrator Matt Skaret is what brought the matter to the forefront.

Some on the council have cited philosophical differences with Skaret.

Proponents of Skaret spoke of his character and accused several council members of being on what they called a "political witch hunt" to remove several key city officials, something the council members have denied.

Skaret's proponents accused the council members of circumventing the process in trying to remove him, saying the matter should have gone to the city's personnel committee.

Following a lengthy discussion and several failed motions, one was made, seconded and approved to place Skaret on a paid leave of absence while the city's Personnel Committee takes up the matter. The motion included a provision to hire an interim city administrator while the proceedings are under way.

The meeting ended with Mayor Don Lamb resigning, "I haven't slept nights since the election. I'm sick to my stomach half the time and I don't need to put up with this crap," Mayor Don Lamb said.

City councilman Rick Kiltz submitted his resignation as well at Wednesday's meeting.

There has been nothing discussed yet regarding that, and as of last check no additional meetings have been scheduled.

The next regular council meeting is June 23.
