CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission said yes to a Greene County casino nearly two months after saying the existing casino market was over saturated and turning down a Linn County application.

The commission voted 3-2 in favor, with Chairman Jeff Lamberti and Commissioner Richard Arnold changing their "no" Linn County votes to "yes" Greene County votes.

KWWL called Lamberti to ask what swayed his vote the other way.

Lamberti says the two proposals were like "night and day." While market studies show the Greene County proposal would also impact nearby casinos, the cannibalization effect was much smaller. He said, to him, that made a big difference.

Lamberti also told KWWL that, at the commission's next meeting, they will discuss whether there are too many casinos in the state to consider new licenses.

The commission may decide to put a hold on any new casino applications, like they did in the years before the Linn County gaming referendum.

Cedar Rapids Mayor Ron Corbett tells KWWL that plans to continue to fight for a casino in his city.
