NORFOLK, NE (KTIV/US92) -
The 7th annual Great American Comedy Festival got underway this week in Norfolk, Nebraska.

The 2014 Great American Comedy Festival began Wednesday with the annual magic show.

Thursday night, the stand-up competition got underway with ten comedians from all over the country performing at the Johnny Carson Theatre. The event itself was hosted by 2013 Comedy Festival winner Phil Palisoul and featured Caroline Rhea as the headlining performer.

Festival organizers say in the seven years since it began the festival has grown to become an event comedians want to come to.

"First of all, they're treated with respect here," says Eddie Brill, the Comedy Festival Talent Coordinator. "They're all the best comics and love working together with each other because they all respect each other's comedy. The other thing is they're here to thank Johnny."

Comedians Gina Brillon, Phil Hanley, Michael Somerville and Joe Zimmerman advanced to the competition finals. Four more comedians will advance Friday night to Saturday's gala event which will also feature performances by Jim Breuer and the presentation of the Johnny Carson Comedy Legend Award to David Steinberg.
