Clovis accepts nomination to run for Iowa State Treasurer

A Siouxland politician who recently lost the Senate primary election in Iowa has accepted the nomination to run for Iowa State Treasurer.

A political advisor for Republican Sam Clovis confirms to KTIV that Clovis accepted the nomination by Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds at the Iowa GOP Convention in Des Moines on Saturday.

Clovis recently placed second in the Iowa Senate Primary Race to State Senator Joni Ernst.

No other Republicans filed to run in the primary election for state treasurer, and the other Republican nominee, John Thompson, withdrew and pledged his full support to Clovis.

Clovis, the business professor at Morningside College, will run against current state treasurer, Democrat Michael Fitzgerald, who's held the position since 1983.
