SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
Before hitting the field Saturday night to take on Grand Prairie, roughly 40 aspiring young baseball players suited up with Manager Steve Montgomery and the X's at their annual youth camp.
From fielding, to hitting and pitching drills it's a chance for the future stars to learn the tools of the trade from the pros.
"I'm hoping to learn more things about pitching because I'm a pitcher," 11 year old Mason Hardin said. "Hitting skills and also how to take good routes to the baseball."
"They're like little sponges," Manager Steve Montgomery added. "They soak up everything we tell them. If we can keep getting youth kids involved in baseball and keep them involved in baseball, it's only going to help the development of the game."
Sioux City will host another camp on August 2, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. To sign up, stop by the X's front office at Lewis & Clark Park or call 712-277-9467.
