They wanted to know how many people were still missing, maybe trapped in the debris.

The town has been closed off by law enforcement officials as they tend to rescue efforts.

Three tornadoes were confirmed by law enforcement between 4 and 5 p.m. Monday.

The tornadoes damaged homes in rural Stanton County and the town of Pilger, trapping people in their homes and injuring well over a dozen people, many severely.

Providence Medical Center in Wayne says they are under a Code Yellow, which means they are preparing for mass injuries.

The governor's office is confirming that a woman died as she was hit by the tornado driving her car. Sadly, a toddler was killed in Pilger, NE. Providence Medical officials say they sent rescue vehicles to both Pilger and Wakefield.

Officials are also saying that sixteen people were critically injured by the violent tornado.

At their worst, the tornadoes were at one point a half-mile wide, and  for a while two large damaging tornadoes were on the ground at the same time.

Some unofficial other tornado touchdowns occurred just south of Hubbard, Nebraska.

When the storm hit Sioux City, the tornado lifted and the city was hit with some gusty winds and heavy rainfall.
