Stanton Co. Sheriff: Pilger, NE is on lock down for safety
WISNER, NE (KTIV) -
For Pilger residents, who survived the storm, many were evacuated to nearby Wisner, and Stanton, Nebraska.
The Stanton County Sheriff has put Pilger on lock down for safety and a mandatory evacuation is in effect. Shelters in Wisner and Stanton are expected to draw many people. In Wisner, about 20 volunteers from the American Red Cross were on hand to help those evacuees.
The shelter was at the high school. He said that only about a dozen people had made their way over to the shelter as of about 8:30 - but they were providing food, water and cots for people to sleep on.
The superintendent of the Wisner Pilger school system, Chad Boyer, said that even though there weren't too many people at the high school as of Monday evening, that he did expect more people to begin coming in as the night moves along.
At this time, they don't know when they'll be ready for volunteers.
