Stanton County Sheriff impacted by Pilger tornado

PILGER, NE (KTIV) - Arlene Miller had just enough time to get to the basement.

"We had some warning but only a couple of minutes before the sirens went off.  It was all quiet and then it just rushed over us," Miller said.

When the storm passed she saw the extreme power of the storm's winds that rocked her home and her world.

"It was so strong a fan from the Co-Op ended in my kitchen knocking a cupboard off of the wall," Miller said.

Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger escorted KTIV News 4 through a part of Pilger to show us the damage at Arlene Miller's home.

Arlene Miller is more than a storm victim, she's Mike Unger's mother-in-law.

"Her house is severely damaged, I would say it is destroyed," said Sheriff Unger.

Arlene Miller will now stay with her son-in-law the sheriff. She says she's worried about the future of the place she called home for the past 25 years.

"The Co-op is destroyed and the bank the two big businesses in town," Miller said.
