4,000 sandbags were filled; Sioux City sandbagging will end at 4pm

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

UPDATE:

Sandbag filling will end at 4:00pm today, June 19. The city thanks all who have volunteered their time, more than 4,000 sandbags were filled!

Sandbags and sand will remain at Goldie Park through Thursday evening for Riverside residents to fill their own bags, if needed.

PREVIOUS STORY:
The city of Sioux City is putting out the call for volunteers to help fill sandbags.  Anyone who wants to help can go to the City Field Services Headquarters at 1723 18th Street.

Sandbags are available for Riverside residents in Goldie Park, 1620 Goldie Avenue.

The Big Sioux River is expected to reach a record crest Friday afternoon.  Residents who may be affected are being encouraged to sandbag their property and bring valuable items up out of their basements.
