The Red Cross opens an emergency shelter at West Middle School in Sioux City
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
The Red Cross is opening an emergency shelter to help people who have been evacuated or are unable to reach their homes due to flooding. The shelter will open at 5 p.m. at the Sioux City School District’s West Middle School building.
Anyone planning to stay in a Red Cross shelter should bring prescription medication, extra clothing, pillows, blankets, hygiene supplies, important documents and other comfort items. Don’t forget to bring any special items for children, such as diapers, formula and toys, or for family members who have unique needs.

Those who would like to help people affected by disasters like tornadoes, floods and other crises can make a donation to American Red Cross Disaster Relief. People can donate by visiting www.redcross.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS or texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation. These donations enable the Red Cross to prepare for, respond to and help people recover from disasters big and small.
