Floodwaters have already inundated homes near Jefferson, South Dakota area

Tensions are rising along with the level of the Big Sioux River.

This is the view of the Big Sioux from high atop Stone State Park.

From here, you can see the scope of the flooding.

The river has overtopped its banks and flooded farm fields in every direction.

Floodwaters have already inundated homes near Jefferson, South Dakota area.

The flooded area is so dangerous, authorities wouldn't let our cameras get close to them.

In the city of Jefferson, homeowners scrambled to save valuables from the rising waters.

Businesses around the area are also being threatened and farmland is already a few feet underwater.

"I've lived here almost 60 years and I've never seen it this bad. The water is deeper than I've ever seen it," James Geary said.

The Union County Emergency Management team says they are putting a dike at the Northeast corner of Jefferson with the help of the Army Corps of Engineers.
