NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. (KTIV) -
Owners of businesses bypassed by the detour were relieved to see those barriers come down Friday.
When you sell fireworks, you depend on the month of June for business, so when Don Lantis saw the stretch of interstate in front of his store closed and traffic detoured away, he worried whether business would end with a bang.
Because the Fourth of July is on a Friday, Lantis said this weekend and the next will be the biggest for fireworks sellers this year.
Don Lantis, Owner of Lantis Fireworks, said, "Thousands of dollars I would have lost, because I have two weeks to make it, and it would have wiped me out."
Still, Lantis added that he thought it was important to build the barricades on the interstate to protect all of the home and business owners in the area.
