Dillon Usiak connects for his walk-off single in the 9th.
Dillon Usiak laced a one-single into right in the bottom of the 9th driving home Amos Ramon to give Sioux City a 3-2 win over its I-29 rivals from Sioux Falls Sunday night at Lewis & Clark Park.
The Explorers improve to 14-23 on the season and have now won eight of their last 12 games.
"We've been playing great baseball and no matter what happens, someone is going to come through and it just happened to be me tonight," Usiak said after the game. "Every time we're at home we want to get a "W" and its that much better that it's against our rival from right down the road."
Trailing 1-0 in the 6th, Rene Tosoni extended his hitting streak to eight games with an RBI single to center. Nate Samson then gave the X's a one-run lead with a sac fly to center which scored Andres Perez.
Leading 2-1 in the 8th, Sioux Falls' Sam Lind erased the deficit with one swing of the bat, crushing a solo home run over the right field wall to tie the game.
The 9th would provide drama and controversy at Lewis & Clark Park.
After singling, Ramon took off to steal second. He was called safe, but looked to be tagged out. Sioux Falls manager Steve Shirley argued the call and was ejected.
A few pitches later, Usiak ended it with a walk-off single.
Sioux City begins a four game series with Rockland of the Can-Am league on Monday.
