Nebraska state employees kick off giving campaign

Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman was in Siouxland Monday morning.

He helped Nebraska State Employees kick off their annual charitable giving campaign.

Heineman was the keynote speaker at a breakfast at the Norfolk Veteran's Home for state employees throughout northeast Nebraska.

"I'm proud of the state employees, for the past five years or so, we've set a record each year. Not only do they do their jobs professionally but they're willing to contribute to help others. It couldn't have come at a better time unfortunately given all the storms," Heineman said.

Heineman said that employees can designate to have their charitable giving stay in their local area.

The giving campaign will kick off in August.

Last year, Nebraska state employees donated on average $132 per employee per year.
