MILFORD, Iowa (KUOO/KTIV) -
The city of Milford has a new Mayor and city council member.
Bill Reinsbach was appointed Mayor, filling the seat vacated by Don Lamb.
Roddy Petersen was appointed to a council seat vacated earlier this month with the resignation of Rick Kilts.
Reinsbach and Petersen were the only applicants for the openings.
Lamb and Kilts both resigned a couple of weeks ago.
They cited differences with several other council members and what they cited as a desire to dismiss Matt Skaret as City Administrator without due process.
They claim the council members had a so-called "hit list", something the council members denied.
The council voted four-to-one Monday evening to approve a severance package for Skaret.
Councilman Jason Simpson cast the lone no vote. Simpson, who also serves on the city’s Personnel Committee, said he feels the matter surrounding Skaret didn’t go through the proper procedure and called on fellow council members to adopt a formal procedure and follow it in the future.
City Attorney Christina Gigstad confirmed Skaret has signed off on the severance package which includes four months of severance pay including health insurance and unused vacation and sick time.
Gigstad couldn’t put a dollar figure to the package.
