Rivers in Minnesota reach record highs in wake of recent rains

(NBC News) -

The massive flooding in the upper Midwest is causing more problems.

The Crow River in Minnesota is now overflowing into homes, businesses and farm land, while the Mississippi is at record levels and getting higher as the rain keeps coming.

The Mississippi has risen above 20 feet, the highest it's been in 15 years.

Forecasters expect it to crest Thursday evening at the seventh highest level on record.

The current is so strong, with so much debris being swept down river, that barge traffic has come to a virtual halt.
