After a stellar career in which he firmly entrenched himself as one of the best college players ever, Creighton's Doug McDermott set his sights on a professional career.

Thursday, that dream became a reality for McDermott.

But it didn't come without some excitement.
McDermott was projected by most mock drafts as a top 10 pick.

Instead, he was drafted 11th overall by the Nuggets - but McDermott won't be playing in Denver.

His rights were traded to Chicago for the Bulls' 16th and 19th picks, which became Bosnian Jusuf Nurkic, and Michigan State's Gary Harris.

The Bulls also gave the Nuggets their second round pick next year.

McDermott averaged 26 points per game as a senior at Creighton and earned national player of the year honors.

He'll join a team that also features Sioux City West grad Kirk Hinrich.
