In a week full of patriotic festivities, one group of Siouxlanders celebrated with the military themselves to honor the stars and stripes, the week of Independence Day.
The senior citizens at Embassy Rehab and Care Center in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa were visited by three members of the ccolor guardfrom the 185th Air Refueling wing.
They marched in to the crowd with the flag, then demonstrated the presentation of the colors and folding of the flag as Senior Master Sergeant Thomas Hanson read the symbolism behind the flag to the audience.
There were several veterans in the crowd, and the members of the 185th color guard said it was a privilege to be there.
"One of my most favorite parts of coming out here is giving back, especially to those who have served before. Some of these people are veterans that are here at the nursing home, and it's a great honor to give back to them," Sgt. Hanson, base color guard said.
By chance, at the conclusion of the presentation, a fighter jet flew over the residence, giving everyone chills.
