Wounded warriors united by love

Cathy was hit by an IED in Afghanistan in 2009. Todd was critically hurt twice, the worst when he came across a roadside bomb in 2006.

"I've got rods, screws, titanium discs holding me together," Todd Shaw said.

For their sacrifices, both Todd and Cathy received the prestigious Purple Heart for wounded warriors.

They didn't know each other back then.

"We met because we got blown up. It's an explosive relationship. That's actually how we met, we met at the Wounded Warrior Battalion," said Todd Shaw.

The pair got married in 2012, and until recently, they were the only married couple with Purple Hearts in the country. Now, they are one of two.

This year someone anonymously nominated them for a home makeover from Rebuilding Together and the Shaws were chosen.
