SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

The driver involved in a fatal hit and run accident in Sioux City faces more charges.

Mark Beltran of Sioux City is now charged with a felony for leaving the scene of an accident.

The 22-year-old Beltran now faces a total of five charges, including failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, failure to report an injury at a motor vehicle accident, driving with a suspended license, and no proof of insurance.

After police and the Woodbury County Attorney's Office reviewed the case, they added the felony charge earlier this week.

The charges stem from an accident on May 29 when police say 60-year-old Robert Ibsgaard was walking across Hamilton Boulevard at the crosswalk at West 7th Street when Beltran hit him with this car.

Police say Beltran left the scene and parked the car in a nearby lot, then fled on foot. He was later found blocks away.

A week later, Ibsgaard died from injuries he received in the accident.

Beltran will be back in court for an arraignment on those charges on Tuesday, July 8.
