SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) - The Big Parade and the Mardi Gras Festival kicks off Thursday night in downtown Sioux City.

Organizers for the event are keeping the costumes a surprise to the public, but KTIV got a sneak peek of the colorful costumes you can see at the gala Thursday night at the Sioux City Convention Center.

Each costume is handmade and sewn to perfection.  They're constructed down in Louisiana and the feathers are added in Sioux City.  A single costume for the Mardi Gras Gala costs more than $1,000 to make.

This year's theme is "Things That Go Together," like feathers and sequins.

The gala is free, but you can also buy tickets for the sit-down meal with reserved seating for $18.

Before that, the Big Parade starts at 6:15 and it will roll down 4th Street.

KTIV will be broadcasting the parade starting at 6:30, so be sure to catch the KTIV crew flinging Bings at the parade.
