X's fall to first place Wichita

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -  In front of a big holiday crowd, the Sioux City Explorers lost the opening game of their homestand against Wichita, 5-3, on Thursday at Lewis and Clark Park. Sioux City made five errors in the loss.
Sioux City made two errors in the first inning, allowing the Wingnuts to take a 1-0 lead. Wichita added two more runs in the third to build their lead to 3-0.

The X's got on the board in the bottom of the third. Peter Barrows hit a double off the wall in left field to lead off the inning. Then with two outs, catcher Todd Jennings singled to left to bring Barrows in.

Sioux City (20-28) would tie the game in the fifth when Barrows singled with the bases loaded to bring in Oscar Mesa and Tim Colwell to make it 3-3.

Wichita, who leads the South Division with a 31-17 record, added solo runs in the sixth and seventh innings to regain the lead at 5-3.

Game two of the series is Friday at 7:05 PM. There will be a fireworks show after Friday's game.
