Arthur Rakes Outer Banks

The season's first hurricane is battering the North Carolina coast this morning. Hurricane

Arthur made landfall near Cape Lookout just before midnight, packing 100 mile per hour winds.

The storm arrived on the eve of the Fourth of July holiday weekend, usually a time for big business at North Carolina's beaches.

Some parts of the outer banks were put under mandatory evacuation but in most areas, leaving remained voluntary.

At least eleven counties had declared states of emergency as Arthur bore down and more than a dozen shelters opened across the state.

The governor says workers are poised to do whatever needs to be done to recover from arthur as soon it's safe for them to do so.
