SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -  The Explorers had their largest crowd of the season Thursday night, as more than 3,100 fans filled up Lewis and Clark Park. The X's will have another full house on Friday when they play game two of their series against first place Wichita.

In the series opener, the fans saw the Wingnuts jump out to a 3-0 lead. Wichita won the game 5-3 to get their 31st win, tops in the American Association.

Sioux City did tie the game at 3-3 but committed five errors while falling to 20-28 overall. The X's have had a winning record over the past month and hope the fans like what they see.

"Guys are always excited when they walk out, and it doesn't matter where you're playing, when they walk out and the stands are full," said manager Steve Montgomery. "We know that these are the two biggest days in Sioux City history, in the 22 years these are the two days they really pack them in here. We would like to get the point where the park is packed like July 3rd every single night. That would be great. We hope the fans come out and they enjoy the game. We ask them, if they enjoy the game, to come back out and support us on another game."

The series with Wichita ends on Saturday. The X's are off on Sunday and Monday before beginning a three game series in Winnipeg on Tuesday.
