MOVILLE, Iowa (KTIV) -  The Iowa girls state softball tournament starts July 21st in Fort Dodge. One of the favorites in Class 2A is Woodbury Central, who starts their postseason run on Wednesday.

The Wildcats are ranked third in Class 2A with a 25-5 record after winning the Western Valley Conference tournament last week. They enter the postseason with ten wins in their last eleven games.

The Wildcats are hitting .352 as a team and hold their opponents to a .174 batting average. Woodbury Central's last trip to state was in 2-thousand-9, and they're overdue for another trip.

"There have been four or five seasons where they could have made it to state," Coach Jade Manker said. "They know what it takes to get there and they've been working really hard."

"Every year we think we're ready," junior Jade Petersen added.  "This year we're more determined and think we can do it. We all work together really well and I think that really helps."

"I've been thinking about it a lot lately and it'd just be fun to go out on a good note and just have fun there," senior Ellen Gallagher said."

Woodbury Central plays Wednesday against either MMC/RU or Unity Christian.
