Suspect in fatal hit-and-run pleads not guilty to charges

The driver involved in a fatal hit and run in Sioux City has pleaded not guilty to charges he faced.

22-year old Mark Beltran of Sioux City filed a written plea, Tuesday, in Woodbury County court.

Beltran faces a total of five charges including failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, failure to report an injury at a motor vehicle accident, driving with a suspended license, and no proof of insurance.

Police say, on May 29th, 60-year-old Robert Ibsgaard was walking across Hamilton Boulevard at the West 7th Street crosswalk when Beltran hit him with this car. Police say Beltran left the scene and parked the car in a nearby lot, then fled on foot. He was later found blocks away. A week later, Ibsgaard died from injuries he suffered.
