Siouxland's lawmakers are weighing in on the immigration crisis, as well.
While all of Siouxland's senators and representatives agree that something needs to be done, not all agree on how it should be handled.
South Dakota Congresswoman Kristi Noem said she's glad the situation is being addressed by the President, and that he's called for deportation.
But, she says, there's something lacking in his proposal.
"There are some things that need to be included that the President's proposal is lacking. I do believe that the National Guard needs to be activated to help in this situation, and I'd also like to see a long-term solution. Ultimately, we can't continue to have this situation go on into the future," said Noem.
Senator Tim Johnson weighed in on the issue as well, saying the escalating immigration crisis on our border, increasingly involving young children, needs to be directly addressed now.
"Congress should immediately act on the President's reasonable action plan to address the humanitarian emergency on our border while we work towards a long-term solution to the immigration problem, " said Johnson.
