Madison County's UNL Extension celebrates a milestone

One of the nations most renowned service organization celebrated a milestone at a northeast Nebraska county fair.

Madison County's UNL Extension office held a centennial celebration at the 4-H office inside the Madison County Fairgrounds. The UNL Extension was created out of the Smith-Lever Act of 1914, which provided funding and outreach endeavors at the Land-Grant Universities.

UNL's Madison County Extension Educator said it has always been the job of extension to educate common people, but the topics they focus on have changed.

"Right now some of our big thrusts are food, fuel, water, people and environment," said Wayne Ohnesorg, Madison County Extension Educator.

Ohnesorg said a future challenge facing extension is finding a way to feed nine billion people with limiting resources. Madison County UNL Extension did their celebration in conjunction with the 4-H fair night.
