Make-A-Wish Iowa is sending Ross Gengler and his family to New York City to see the Yankees play.
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -
A car show at the Southern Hills Mall in Sioux City was the site of one very special scene Saturday.
The Hy-Vee car show raised money for Make-A-Wish Iowa and included raffle prizes.
But for Ross Gengler, who lost his leg to bone cancer, this was more than a car show.
He and his whole family are big Yankees fans, but have never been to New York, let alone a Yankees game.
Thanks to Make-A-Wish, they're headed to the Big Apple to see the Bronx Bombers.
"I've never been to Yankee Stadium, and I've always wanted to go since I was little," said Gengler. "I think it'd be really cool. It's an amazing organization that can help all these kids have their dreams come true and go to all these fun places.
Ross has been cancer-free since May 28, 2013.
The Gengler family will leave for New York on the July 21st and will spend a week there.
